Would you like to be at the cutting edge of independent crop trials and part of a team recommending varieties for the UK?

If the answer is ‘yes’, then you may be interested to learn that AHDB has six vacancies across its three Recommended List (RL) crop committees.

The vacancies are as follows:

Wheat Crop Committee (three vacancies)

  • Pathologist
  • Agronomist with a specific interest in new varieties (commercial and marketing experience preferred);
  • Wheat grower or another person able to represent the interests of growers.

Barley, Oats and Other Cereals Crop Committee (two vacancies)

  • Pathologist;
  • Oat grower (preferably with an additional interest in rye and triticale).

Oilseeds Crop Committee (one vacancy)

  • Oilseeds grower (preferably able to represent the northern region).

Candidates should be enthusiastic and committed.

Committee members meet three times a year – generally in May or June; August or September; and November.

The main tasks of each committee are to agree agronomic and quality definitions for each varietal recommendation, select candidate varieties for trial and propose new varieties to be added to the Recommended List.

Appointments are for a three-year term. Members are supported by AHDB staff and receive reasonable travel and subsistence allowances.

Further information on the role of the crop committees can be found in the RL Crop Committee Handbook.

Applications, including a covering letter and CV, should be emailed to: [email protected]. The closing date is January 23, 2019.

Interviews are expected to take place on February 6, 2019 at the AHDB office in Huntingdon.

The online summaries of the 2019-20 Recommended List will be launched on December 3, 2018. The summaries, along with commentary, will be published at: ahdb.org.uk/knowledge-library/recommended-lists.

RL Look Ahead

At the 2018 AHDB Agronomists’ Conference, initial results from the organisation’s RL Look Ahead activity will be announced.

The RL Look Ahead examines how farmers, grain trade, agronomists and crop breeders use the RL to inform their decisions, and identifies what developments may be useful in the future.

Further information on the conference, which takes place on December 4-5 in Kettering, can be accessed from cereals.ahdb.org.uk/agconf.
