Poland has launched a campaign to encourage Irish people to eat more Polish apples, after it lost one of its main export markets for apples.

The recent announcement by Russia to stop imports of food from Europe, the US, Canada and Australia has affected the Polish export of apples. And now, it is turning to social media in a bid to encourage people to eat more of its apples.

In response to the crisis, the Polish embassy in Dublin has come up with a short video encouraging Irish people to eat more of its apples as part of a wider Polish campaign.

It’s not just Irish people who are being asked to eat more Polish apples – Poland has also launched the ‘eat more Polish apples’ in the US. Poland has asked the US to purchase the country’s apples after Moscow banned all food imports from the EU, the US, and other countries who imposed sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

Just today the EU Commission announced the first ‘exceptional measures‘ to help EU producers affected by the Russian ban. The first set of measures are aimed at fresh fruit and vegetable producers.
