Rhug Estate has won two Great Taste awards for its organic Welsh lamb chops and organic Aberdeen Angus beef rump-steak.

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, commented of his awards: “I am pleased we have once again achieved Great Taste awards.

“These awards are recognition of all the hard work and dedication of the entire team both on the farm and in our cutting plant.

“We pride ourselves on producing the best quality organic meat for our customers, whether they be in our Farm Shop, online or wholesale.

“The team is always striving to do better and that is how it should be.”

The awards

The awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink.

It has been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world.

Established in 1994, Great Taste is the world’s largest, longest standing and most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. 14,205 different products were entered in 2022, from 110 countries.

4,078 were awarded a Great Taste one-star mark for ‘food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour’. 1,237 were awarded a Great Taste two-stars for ‘above and beyond delicious’ products and 241 were awarded a Great Taste three-stars for ‘extraordinarily tasty food and drink’.

Only 5,556 products – 39.1% of the total products entered this year – received either a one, two or three-star award, and of the 2,344 winning companies, 27% are based outside of the UK.
