Latest figures from the CSO announced today show that over 1,551 new tractors have been licensed in the first seven months of the year a 12% increase on the same period in 2013.
Its figures also show that, in July, 196 new tractors were licensed, which is a decrease on June and May figures this year.
The CSO figures also show a massive rise in the number of used tractors imported since January up 55% at 1,567, The number of used tractors imported in July was down on the same month last year 207.
Tractor sales are often used a gauge of the mood of the agricultural industry and have been on the rise this year, month on month, compared to last year.
The CSO figures show the number of vehicles licensed in Ireland. It differs from registration in that a vehicle is licensed when a valid motor tax disc is issued for the first time. Registration occurs when a vehicle gets its licence plate (registration number) for the first time.
