Consumers encouraged to fire up the barbie for National BBQ Week
Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) is celebrating National Barbecue Week this week (May 25-31) by encouraging Scots to fire up their barbecues with their families.
As part of its joint £1.2 million national campaign with the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and Hybu Cig Cymru, QMS will be providing BBQ recipe inspiration to consumers, offering top tips on how readers can add their own twists to best enjoy the dishes they make.
Through its Scotch Kitchen website and social channels, QMS has also partnered with renowned UK barbecue blogger Marcus Bawdon of Country Wood Smoke who will be sharing his take on Scotch Beef steak skewers with chimichurri sauce for viewers to recreate at home.
‘The heart of summer’
Lesley Cameron, director of marketing and communications from Quality Meat Scotland, said: “Although the kitchen is the heart of the home, the barbecue is undoubtedly the heart of summer.
We want families to celebrate National Barbecue Week by enjoying simple, healthy and delicious recipes using top-quality products from Scottish farms and available in supermarkets and butchers across the country.
“We would also encourage people to continue supporting their local Scotch Butcher Club butcher by ordering meat if they don’t already have it at home, as many are still offering deliveries during this time.”
During this challenging period, QMS has been promoting the work of Scotch butchers and food suppliers that have changed their business models to deliver meat to customers in need, as well as profiling farmers for human interest stories about how industry practitioners are responding to Covid-19.
