Krone is celebrating 40 years of round baler production by upgrading its range of Comprima machines.

A “modern, fresh look” has been achieved, using a new design of cover and panel – as well as a new lighting system (including LED work-lights).

Comprima balers are available as single or tandem-axle machines, with a choice of brakes and tyres. All models are ISOBUS compatible.

The Comprima Combi Wrappers now have a new design of bale turner, encompassing a jockey wheel that is designed to protect the sward. The bale turner turns the round bale onto its flat end, for easier handling and transport.

For more reliable operation, mechanical switches have been replaced with ultrasonic ones; these indicate when the bale is on the wrapping table, allowing the twin-satellite wrapper to start the wrapping cycle.

All Comprima models have the option of peripheral film wrap (to bind the barrel of the bale, instead of net-wrap). This, says Krone, can increase silage quality as the film helps hold the bale in shape, eliminating air pockets – thus reducing mould and spoilage.

New Comprima balers retain many of the existing features, including the camless pick-up (with a 2.15m working width and five rows of tines).

The staggered ‘W’ arrangement of the tines is claimed to create a more uniform and even feed of crop into the baler.

The camless pick-up arrangement can rotate 30% quicker than cam-type pick-ups, according to Krone. It also contains around 66% fewer moving parts – resulting in less maintenance.

The so-called NovoGrip belt and slat system, that forms the bales inside the chamber, is claimed to work well in all conditions – from wet grass to dry straw. The metal slats are designed to “ensure positive bale rotation in all crops”. The rubber belts contribute to quiet operation.

The Comprima range consists of seven models, including fixed (F), semi-variable (F) and variable (V) chambers – with or without wrappers (CF/CV). Chamber diameters are available from 1.25m to 2.05m. There is a choice of non-chopper or chopper (17 or 26 knives – XC) models.
