Michelle Nuttall has joined AHDB as a new arable knowledge exchange manager for the North West.

Covering the counties of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside, as well as Northern Ireland, her job will be to work with farmers and others in the industry to help them learn from each other.

She will be looking after the Monitor Farm programme in the North West, running regional events for the industry and helping to bridge the gap between farming research and practice in the field.

Michelle said: “It’s really exciting to work with a very engaged group of farmers like the Monitor Farm groups. It’s quite unusual, and it’s a different way of working, which is nice.”

Track record

Prior to AHDB, Michelle worked in field trials and for a small start-up company producing nitrogen-fixing bacteria.

She says she got into plant science, and farming, by accident.

“But once I was working in the sector, I found I was really interested in the subject and really enjoyed learning every day,” she said.

Michelle met the current Monitor Farm hosts at the Monitor Farm conference earlier this month.
