The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is now taking nominations for the position of seasonal poultry group chair for 2023.

The union said the position holder will represent the sector and help shape the NFU’s turkey marketing campaign.

The deadline for applications is January 3, 2023.

The NFU’s seasonal poultry group meet once a year, usually in the spring, to review the previous Christmas and discuss the forthcoming NFU turkey marketing campaign.

The union said applicants need to show that they are passionate about the seasonal poultry sector and motivated to ensure future policy is fit to allow farmers to remain resilient and progressive.

The role may involve public-facing communications and media interviews, but the union said that media training and support would be provided for this.

The seasonal poultry group chair may also be invited to attend relevant NFU national poultry board meetings to provide insights on seasonal poultry.

Application process

NFU members who would like to be considered for the position are asked to seek support from four other NFU members and submit a nomination form before the closing date on January 3.

NFU members will then attend a meeting of the NFU seasonal poultry group on Microsoft Teams on January 9, where candidates who have met the nomination criteria will be given two minutes to explain why they should be elected chair.

Members will then vote and elect the next NFU seasonal poultry group chair.
