The three candidates competing for the two vice-president roles within the National Farmers’ Union Scotland (NFUS) will begin hustings on Wednesday (January 11).

The candidates, Alasdair Macnab and current vice-presidents Andrew Connon and Robin Traquair, will kick-off their 10-day tour in Ayrshire, and finish in the Shetlands on January 25.

The full list of the tour dates and locations is below.

At each location, the vice-president nominees will speak to NFUS members, which union president Martin Kennedy believes is very important at the present time.

“It is an extremely uncertain time for Scottish agriculture, so there has never been a more important time for members to get out to these hustings, listen to the candidates and make sure their vote counts,” he said.

“I wish each one of the candidates the very best and urge them to make the most of this fantastic, if hectic, round of meetings,” he added.

“All three candidates have the skills and experience to do a fantastic job for NFUS and Scottish agriculture and this is their opportunity to convince members they have a role to play as we tackle the major challenges ahead.”

Members of NFU Scotland’s council – a body made up of representatives from each of the union’s branches – will select the successful candidates. Voting will take place at the union’s council meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on February 10.

The union’s annual general meeting (AGM), conference and annual dinner will be staged at the same venue the day before (February 9).
