The Urdd’s popular cooking competition, ‘Cogurdd’ for young chefs. is back after a two-year break and Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) is pleased to be a sponsor.
The quest to find the country’s budding young chefs is a competitive contest, this year involving 1,035 aspiring cooks from the age of eight to 25.
Local and regional rounds have now been held and the winners will battle it out in the final at the Urdd’s National Eisteddfod in Denbigh at the end of May.
Meirionnydd held its regional heat earlier this week with Elin Davies from Ysgol Bro Tryweryn, Frongoch, Bala placed as winner with her Welsh Beef stirfry.
She will now be expected to cook again for celebrity judge Beca Lyne-Pirkis during the Eisteddfod week.
HCC’s events executive, Medi Jones-Jackson attended the competition in Dolgellau.
She said: “It was great to be able to show our support for the enthusiastic young chefs who, for that particular round, were asked to prepare a stir-fry.
“Each competitor successfully demonstrated how red meat could be used to create a simple, nutritious meal.
“We work with consumers of all ages to promote Wales’ red meat and one of our key target audiences is young people.
“Our support for this competition sits alongside a range of new educational resources which have been produced for primary and secondary school teachers to use in the classroom.
“Their purpose is to promote the health and environmental benefits of red meat and also to show how ‘The Welsh Way’ of producing red meat is sustainable and how it benefits the local environment and economy.
“Cogurdd is a fantastic competition that attracts competitors from across Wales and we look forward to some more red meat recipes being prepared in Denbigh for the finals.”
