A £20m chilled dessert production facility in Cornwall is scheduled for completion in 2026.
Following European dairy group Ehrmann’s acquisition of Cornish-based Trewithen Dairy last year, the Ehrmann Cornish Dairy identity was formed.
Ehrmann Cornish Dairy unites one of Germany’s largest privately-owned dairy companies with Cornwall’s dairy heritage.
The business will serve as the UK home to both the Ehrmann and Trewithen Dairy brands, bringing together “German expertise in chilled desserts and high-protein dairy with the trusted quality and provenance of Cornish milk”.
New production facility
Ed Watts, chief commercial officer of Ehrmann Cornish Dairy, said the business is “in a great position to serve both retail partners and consumers with high-quality, home-produced dairy products”.
“We’re extremely excited to expand into the UK market and showcase our commitment to the important and long-standing dairy industry,” he added.
As part of this expansion, Ehrmann Cornish Dairy is investing £20m into the new chilled dessert production facility at the Trewithen Dairy site in Glynn Valley, Cornwall.
Scheduled for completion in 2026, this facility will enable UK-based manufacturing of Ehrmann’s ranges.
The 2024 acquisition ofTrewithen Dairy held over 200 jobs and the continued development of Ehrmann Cornish Dairy allows for additional roles to be created specifically within innovation and manufacturing, the business said.
The company will continue to work with more than 40 local Cornish farmers for sourcing milk.
Paul Berne, CEO of Trewithen Dairy, said this partnership “strengthens our position as a leader in Cornish dairy while accelerating our reach nationwide”.
“With new investment, innovation and manufacturing capability, we’re well placed to continue growing our national presence without losing sight of our Cornish heritage,” he added.
