A 47-year-old Aberdeenshire man who was killed over the weekend is the second in his family to have died in a farming accident.

Police were called to a farm in the Fisherie area of Turriff at around 11:00am on Saturday (November 10).

Neil Ironside had been working on Auchlinn Farm near Turriff at the time of the incident, which is understood to have involved a tractor.

The 47-year-old was also the director of KW Contractors – a building and civil engineering firm.

A police spokeswoman said there are no suspicious circumstances and added that the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

His younger brother, Alan, was killed in 2013 aged 39 when he was dragged into a combine leaving him with fatal head injuries.

An investigation found he had been working in a field with his father at about 8:00pm on August 13, 2013, when the combine blocked.

After he had unblocked the machine, Alan was dragged into the machine.

The circumstances surrounding Neil Ironside’s death have not yet been made public. An investigation is currently underway.
