The LAMMA Show and the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) have partnered up again to announce the 2023 Young Engineer Award.

Deadline for entries for the award, which aims to showcase the work of young engineers in promoting sustainability and profitability on UK farms, is on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Head of events at Agriconnect, Nichola Bell, said: “Our roots lie in championing the best of British agricultural engineering, and this is still closely aligned with LAMMA’s mission today.

“The Young Engineer Award gives us the opportunity to identify promising young talent in the sector and, in doing so, we aim to provide them with opportunities to further their careers.”

Last year’s winner, Stephen Davies, will return to LAMMA 2023 as an exhibitor with his DTec 200 feeding and mixing bucket.

“I would definitely recommend that others enter the award,” Davies said.

“It showed me I was on the right path and made the right decision to launch my own business and continue working on the DTec 200.”

LAMMA Young Engineer Award

The LAMMA Young Engineer Award showcases engineers who have created or made changes to a piece of agricultural machinery, equipment or technology and, by doing so, improved efficiency, profitability or sustainability on-farm.

LAMMA has said that eligible entries can include:

  • Products that have been designed and fully manufactured;
  • Prototypes in development;
  • Concepts in the initial stages of development;
  • Existing products that have been modified, providing they have been substantially improved the efficiency, productivity and/or sustainability of the product.

Those interested in applying for the award should visit the LAMMA Show website to enter.

Entry is free and both individuals and companies are eligible to apply. The award is open to engineers up to 35 years of age and under as of January 1, 2023.

After the deadline for entries on November 18, judges will determine the shortlist to put to public vote from December 2, 2022.

The winner will be determined by a combination of judges’ scores and public voting results and will be announced at the LAMMA Show in January 2023.
