Police in Northern Ireland have appealed for witnesses following a collision involving a tractor near Omagh, Co. Tyrone.

Police in Omagh are appealing for witnesses in relation to the road traffic collision that occurred on Friday (August 7).

The incident occurred at around 4:50a.m, on the Greenmount Road in Sixmilecross, to the southwest of Omagh.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said that a blue-coloured tractor, with machinery attached to the back, collided with a car.

The PSNI said that anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was driving a tractor on this road at the time, should contact police on 101, or to make a report to police via an online witness appeal form.

Tyrone cattle cull

In other recent news related to Co. Tyrone, a protest is taking place today (August 10) following a cattle culling operation in the county, in which 51 cattle were shot.

The farmer protest is taking place at Stormont in Belfast, as the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs meets to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the controversial cattle cull at a farm near Fivemiletown in June.

According to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Co. Tyrone operation had been carried out "to execute a Court Deprivation Order on a herd belonging to a disqualified keeper, in respect of animal welfare offences".

The meeting will be addressed by Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Andrew Muir.

Last week, Minister Muir said in a written statement to the committee that "after careful consideration of all available options, the department was unfortunately left with no reasonable alternative to comply with the court order other than to euthanise the animals".

Minister Muir told the committee that 50 of the cattle were euthanised by the DAERA Humane Slaughter Team on June 29, with one animal euthanised by the team on the morning of June 30.

The minister said: "The staff in this team are highly trained, in line with best practice and legislative requirements, and highly respected across these islands for their expertise following procedures that provide for a humane death."
