Leicestershire Police have confirmed that its officers attended a local public park in Blaby, following reports of a herd of cows on the loose.

Two officers from the Blaby police force were called to Jubilee Park in Enderby on Sunday, May 4, after a herd of 30 cows managed to enter the park.

Police said that while the cows were not in close proximity to the public road and posed little risk to passerbys as a result, their presence in the park formed a public health and safety concern.

This concern was exacerbated by the location of the children’s playground in the park, as well as the risk to dog walkers availing of the amenities of trampling by the cows.

The police officers who attended the scene provided details of the incident in a post on Blaby Police’s Facebook page.

Officer Danny Yeatman said: “Back on shift today proved to be certainly a different shift to the usual as myself and PCSO 6028 Ryan [Keane], attended Jubilee Park as a herd of cows had managed to get onto Jubilee Park. After initially being told it was a small number, it turned out to be around 30 cows.

“While they were contained in the park from the public highway, the risk to members of the public was still there due to a children’s play park and a hot spot for local dog walkers, which could be a cause of concern and potential escalation.

“After a bit of running around and herding, enquiries were completed around where they had come from and who they belonged to. The owner came and brought the cavalry and put our herding skills to shame. It just goes to show, team work makes the dream work.

“They were finally moooved off the field.”
