At Ballymena Mart’s sheep sale on Monday evening, January 26, Clive and Joel Richardson are presenting 90 ewes for sale

The Richardsons say that they pride themselves in breeding “top quality livestock” across their busy farm enterprise on the outskirts of Portadown, which includes a dairy unit in addition to beef Shorthorn, Limousin and Angus cattle.

Combined with work commitments off the farm, the Co. Armagh duo have decided to reluctantly disperse their commercial sheep flock.

Included in the sale are 20 purebred North Country Cheviot ewes which are carrying to the Blue Face Leicester ram.

As much as little Eddie Richardson would love to be lambing down his ewes with his dad and grandad this March, time constraints on and off the farm have resulted in the decision to sell this flock of in lamb ewes.

This is an opportunity to acquire commercial ewes in addition to a number of pure North Country Cheviots.

“We have our ewes in a good place breeding wise, and these girls are as genuine as they come,” Clive Richardson said.

“They are scanned at 200% and due to lamb from the March 1 onwards. There is a range of 1/2/3/4 crop ewes included. The majority are carrying to a flashy Suffolk ram, with 20 purebred Cheviot ewes in lamb to the Blue Face Leicester.”

Clive added that farmers can buy with confidence as all ewes are dosed with heptavac P.

Ballymena Livestock Mart, which opened in 2005, sees sellers and buyers from across the province, Ireland and United Kingdom and has an average yearly throughput of 160,000 sheep and 65,000 cattle.

The mart is also an established location for agricultural machinery, plant and implement sales with auctions held monthly throughout the year and on farm machinery sales.
