Farmers from Montgomeryshire have raised vital funds towards the Bronglais chemo appeal and recently presented the cheque of £1,270 to Dr. Elin Jones, clinical lead at the Bronglais Chemotherapy Unit.

The Farmers’ Union of Wales Montgomeryshire county executive committee had raised £500 and a raffle at the recent county farming conference raised a further £385.

The FUW Group match funded the raffle and added a further £385 in group donations.

The appeal was launched to raise £500,000 to make the dream of providing a purpose-built chemotherapy day unit for Bronglais General Hospital a reality – and passed its target in only 10 months.

Speaking after the presentation, FUW Montgomeryshire county executive officer Emyr Wyn Davies said:

“The Bronglais chemo appeal is a matter close to our hearts here in Montgomeryshire and I thank all those members and friends of the union who have donated money to the cause and who have provided raffle prizes.

“Cancer affects so many people and having this dedicated, purpose built day unit at Bronglais Hospital is something we feel very passionate about.”

Every penny raised, including future donations, will go directly to the appeal fund, with any surplus funds used to support those affected by cancer across Ceredigion and mid Wales.

The technical design stage of the project has already begun, and it is anticipated that construction work will start in summer 2023.

The target is for the new chemotherapy unit to go live in summer 2024.
