The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it stopped a tractor on the M1 motorway near Lisburn this week.
Officers from the Road Policing Strategic Unit – Mahon Road – stopped the tractor travelling to Ballymena from Co. Cavan.
“This tractor should not be on the motorway – tractors are not allowed to use motorways,” NI Road Policing and Safety said.
“The driver, who was only 16-years-old and only had a provisional entitlement in the Republic of Ireland, should not have been driving on any road in NI.
“His parents now have a three hour journey to come to Lisburn and deal with the matter.”
Tractor seized last month
Separately, the PSNI last month stopped and seized a tractor travelling at night without rear lights in Ballymena, Co. Antrim.
NI Road Policing and Safety said in a Facebook post that Maydown Road Policing Interceptors stopped it in the Moorfields Road area of Ballymena, Co. Antrim, travelling in the dark with no rear lights.
According to the NI Road Policing and Safety, this was “putting the driver and everyone else at serious risk”.
Upon further questioning and investigation, it was also found that the driver of the tractor had no insurance policy for the vehicle.
The vehicle was seized on the spot and a fixed penalty notice issued, giving the driver six penalty points.
