The Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) has said that its Carmarthen team is looking forward to the “incredibly valuable” Llandeilo Show later this month.

The show, which takes place on Saturday, August 19, will be held in Cawdor Fields, Ffairfach, Llandeilo.

The show is run by the Llandeilo & District Agricultural & Horticultural Society and is always held on the third Saturday of August annually.

The show’s organisers aim to offer “something for everyone” by providing classes for cattle, sheep, horses and pigs, as well as a dog show.

The FUW said the local county show presents an excellent opportunity for members of the union to discuss the most urgent farming matters with officials and also meet with their local elected politicians.

FUW Carmarthenshire chair, Ann Davies, said the union is looking forward to attending the show, where it will have its own stand with its insurance services branch.

“Local shows, such as Llandeilo show, are incredibly valuable. Not just to our way of life and through providing an opportunity to catch up with friends, but also in highlighting why farming matters,” she said.

“When we meet with our local politicians at the show, we will bring to their attention issues that affect the viability and sustainability of our family farms and I look forward to discussing not just the problems we face but also the solutions.”

The show’s organisers said the event is supported by local companies with their trade stands and that they are “particularly grateful to all the local businesses who sponsor the show”.

The Llandeilo Show has been held yearly since 1866 and was originally held in the Cae William in Llandeilo, which is now rugby grounds.

The show moved location to Love Lodge in Ffairfach, next to the current show field, in 1965.
