Animal Health Ireland has this week updated the IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis) section on its website.
It now includes a FAQ on the animal. The IBR disease spreads between cattle and can cause the nose and upper airways to become inflamed. The disease usually occurs when an animal is first exposed to a herpes virus called ‘Bovine Herpes Virus-1’ and so this virus is also known as IBR virus (IBRV).
The severity of disease caused by infection with BoHV-1 can vary from inapparent to very severe.
The leaflet is designed for vets and anyone who works in the industry, providing them with key information on tackling the disease. The release of this IBR FAQ is the second of two new information leaflets available on the AHI website. The other, Redwater – the facts, is available under the heading of parasite control. Again, this information leaflet is designed for both farmers and vets.
