Nominations are now open for the National Farmers’ Union’s (NFU) National Poultry Board.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, March 3, 2024, and the NFU is urging those that want to help shape future policy for the sector to put themselves forward.

Nominations can be submitted by NFU members who wish to be a part of the board for a two-year period from March 2024 to March 2026.

The NFU said members of the national poultry board are selected via a competitive process which will consider the skillset of nominees and both regional and sector representation on the board.

Nominations will go to a selection panel and short interviews may be conducted if required.

Once confirmed, the new board will then meet for the first time on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, where the new chair and vice chair will be elected.

National poultry board

The national poultry board’s remit is to formulate policy on behalf of the poultry sector and represent the interests of NFU poultry members, covering both the poultry meat and egg sectors.

“The work of the national poultry board covers a wide remit of issues affecting the poultry sector from avian influenza to nutrient neutrality and there’s no time like the present to play your part in setting the vision for the future,” the NFU said.

“If you have a passion for the poultry sector and want to make a difference by helping to shape the future for the industry, this could be the role for you.”

The union said it is seeking 12 “enthusiastic and driven” individuals to form the board.

The national poultry board meets six times a year and in return for their work members receive an annual honorarium which is paid monthly.

The NFU said board meetings will take place predominantly in person and that attendance is expected at all twelve meetings across the two-year term.

Those interested in applying must get the support of eight other NFU members and submit a nomination form which includes 250 words on why they would like the position.
