The Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society has elected Brian Jones as its new president.

Jones, the founder of food wholesaler Castell Howell, has been unanimously elected for the year ahead, with Adam Thorne voted in as president-elect.

Both Jones and Thorne were elected at the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society’s annual general meeting last month on the Pembrokeshire Showground.

Speaking on his aspirations for his time as president of the society, Jones said: “For many years I have been involved with the food hall element of Pembrokeshire County Show.

“This year especially, while I’m president, I want the event to showcase wonderful Welsh produce. Pembrokeshire has an abundance of visitors and we want them to enjoy the best food and drink experience while they are here.”

The other officeholders elected at the AGM for 2023 include:

  • Betsan Williams and Luke Watts voted in as ambassadors;
  • Nicola Owen as honorary treasurer;
  • Kathy Wilson, Beth Watts and Gemma Rees appointed as honorary show governors.

Jones established Castell Howell Foods Ltd in the 1980s and continues to lead the company as its chief executive.

The Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society said Jones’ commitment to the agricultural industry brought his a Fellowship of the Royal Agricultural Societies as well as an MBE for his commitment to the food industry.
