Lancashire Police posted a clip to social media today (Thursday August 21) of a 30-year-old tractor driver losing control of his vehicle in Preston.

A dashcam caught the moment a 30-year-old Massey Ferguson driver with a full load overtook dangerously on the A59.

The video was captured on June 6 and submitted to Lancashire Police, who were able to track the driver down.

The police noted how in the video, the man could be seen waving his arms around as a signal to the driver in front to hurry up.

The driver then overtook the vehicle in front, and rapidly moved back in front before his trailer mounted the central reservation.

The police highlighted how the tractor driver’s cargo of empty pallets came loose and fell into the opposite carriageway, with some entering the path of oncoming vehicles.

Lancashire Police said the man pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, saying he was “traffic dodging” and “just wanted to get home”.

The police force said: “As a result of his impatience, sheer recklessness and pure selfishness, he was disqualified from driving for 12 months and will have to take an extended driving test before being allowed to drive again.

“He was also fined £1,066 and ordered to pay £501 in court costs and victim surcharge.”

The police force reminded the public if they see someone driving dangerously to call 999.

Arson

In a separate incident, South Yorkshire police are appealing for information following reports of arson in Barnsley.

The police force confirmed they were alerted to reports of a fire on August 13 at around 3:45p.m.

The blaze broke out in a field on Storrs Mill Lane in the Cudworth area and quickly spread to nearby location.

Police confirmed that the fire caused over £50,000-worth of damage to local property.

In addition, police confirmed a cow was found dead in a neighbouring field, with her cause of death being linked to smoke inhalation.

South Yorkshire Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
