Potato growers across Great Britain have been called on to take part in a survey that aims to assess the current state and future of the potato cultivation sector.
Through gathering information on the hectares of potatoes being grown, the goal of the survey is to create a benchmark of production levels within the industry
The survey, which is being carried out by industry body GB Potatoes, is also designed to measure the industry confidence among growers,

GB Potatoes said the findings will help the industry, government and research bodies better understand the scale and distribution of potato production, as well as the day-to-day realities facing growers following several seasons marked by “cost volatility, changing market conditions and increasing scrutiny around sustainability and environmental performance.”
The organisation believes now is a “crucial time” to capture data, with the sector continuing to adjust to rising input costs, water availability and labour pressures.
The chair of GB Potatoes, Alex Godfrey commented: “The British potato industry is resilient and innovative, with enormous long-term potential.
“By capturing accurate production data alongside sentiment, we can make a stronger case for the policies, research, and commercial support needed to secure that future.”
The results of the survey will be finalised and showcased within GB Potatoes’ annual Confidence and Production Report.
Additionally, the report will help shape future discussions with policymakers, research bodies, and the wider supply chain on areas such as “investment priorities, market development, productivity improvements and long-term sector resilience.
Participation
Godfrey added: “We are asking growers to help create a national picture that reflects both the scale and the health of the industry.
“By contributing their data, growers will give GB Potatoes and its partners the insight needed to advocate for the sector with clarity and authority, and to help ensure the British potato industry remains both competitive and sustainable.”
The survey is open until January 16, 2026 and can be accessed on the GB Potatoes’ website,
GB Potatoes stated that all participants will be entered into a draw to have the chance to win a £50 voucher.
