The National Farmers’ Union of Scotland (NFUS) has appointed a new dairy policy manager – Tracey Roan.

Roan will take on responsibility for the Scottish Dairy Hub, a signposting service for Scotland’s dairy sector that has been running for almost nine years with Scottish government support.

She originally joined the union in May of 2022 as regional manager for Dumfries and Galloway, and farms with her husband and two children milking 240 pedigree Holstein cows.

Speaking on Roan’s appointment to her new role, NFUS’ head of policy team Gemma Cooper said she was pleased to welcome Roan to the team.

“Tracey brings a wealth of experience to the role and will be well placed to support our dairy members on key issues,” she said.

“During her time as regional manager for NFUS, Tracey has already shown that she has the drive and talent to take forward work on behalf of our dairy farmers.”

Speaking on her new role as NFUS dairy policy manager, Roan said: “I have always been passionate about the dairy sector, so I am very much looking forward to working with our dairy members and stakeholders through my work with NFU Scotland and through the Scottish Dairy Hub.

“In taking on both roles, I hope to build on the valuable work of my predecessor Stuart Martin in driving forward the Scottish dairy sector.

“With huge natural advantages in producing high quality milk in Scotland, I aim to assist the sector in growing our output and value and realising our potential.”

Roan is a past winner of NFUS’ Ambassador award which she collected at NFUS’ AGM and annual dinner in 2020, which aimed to recognise Roan’s work in establishing the Dumfries and Galloway Dairy Women’s Network.
