AgNav, the online sustainability platform for Irish farmers, has been awarded ‘Sustainability Initiative of the Year’ at the Grocer Gold Awards.
The Grocer Gold Awards are organised annually by The Grocer, a UK trade magazine for the grocery and the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.
The awards celebrate outstanding performance, innovation, and excellence across a wide range of categories – from suppliers and product innovation to retailers and sustainability.
The platform beat six other finalists in the sustainable products services category. The awards were announced at a ceremony in the Royal Albert Hall, London on July 8.
In awarding AgNav, the judges commented that “the demand for this couldn’t be clearer,” and cited “significant benefits that go far beyond the farmgate and all the way up the value chain”.
This wins marks AgNav’s second UK award this year, following earlier success in winning the Sustainability Award at the British Culinary Federation (BCF) Awards on June 11.
Administered and run by the BCF – Britain’s national chefs’ body – the BCF Awards recognise and celebrate culinary excellence and innovation among chefs and hospitality professionals across the UK food service sector, while also highlighting leadership in sustainability and broader environmental goals within the industry.
When presenting AgNav with the Sustainability Award 2025, the judges said: “Sustainability in hospitality begins at the source, with farmers, producers, and suppliers who prioritise responsible practices from the ground up.”
AgNav
Developed through a partnership between Bord Bia, Teagasc, and the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF), AgNav is a free, online tool designed specifically for Irish farmers.
It provides science-based insights to support farmers’ environmental and economic goals.
Mick Houlihan, acting director of Origin Green and Sustainable Quality Assurance with Bord Bia, said: “Winning both these awards is a strong endorsement from our industry peers, and helps to increase the visibility and credibility of AgNav as a leading sustainability platform.
“On behalf of our AgNav partners, Teagasc and ICBF, I’d like to thank the thousands of Irish farmers who are using AgNav and implementing important sustainability actions on their farms.”
Sean Deane, UK market specialist with Bord Bia added: “While AgNav is principally a tool for farmers, it is a useful platform in my conversations with key UK retail and food service operators, who are placing increasing value on verifiable sustainability action at farm level.
“With over 16,000 farmers signed-up to AgNav, it helps us to demonstrate Ireland’s ambitions and ongoing efforts in agricultural sustainability under Origin Green in the UK and beyond.”
In addition to these two UK awards, AgNav was also highly commended in the Best Dairy Sustainability Initiative at the Irish National Dairy Awards on June 19.
Farmers can learn more about AgNav at the Sustainable Livestock Village at the Tullamore Show on August 10.
