Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Pembrokeshire County Show, which takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, August 16-17, in Haverfordwest.

The ‘early bird’ rate, which is available online, is £13 for adults and £8 for children aged five to 16; kids under four-years-old can enter for free.

Tickets for members of Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, which will be at a discounted rate, will be launched shortly.

The society has said that preparations are “coming together well” for the two-day event, which will be full of “livestock, competitions, attractions and much more”.

Ticketholders at the show will have a front-row seat to a myriad of competitions including craft and horticulture, cattle, pig, as well as livestock and equine classes and showjumping.

There will be music, a food hall, and the County Market area, which will showcase over 40 local product and craft stalls, too.

Ahead of this year’s show, school children from across Pembrokeshire have been invited to a barbecue, hosted by the society, to learn how local food is produced.

The event is sponsored Meat Promotion Wales/Hybu Cig Cymru and Castell Howell and will take place next week on Monday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 20, on the Pembrokeshire County Showground.

During the barbecue, which will be suitable for year-five pupils upwards, there will be arable, dairy, beef and sheep farmers on hand to demonstrate and explain the journey of the different crops, milk, eggs and meat produced in Wales.

The event will also touch on how the weather and climate affects the work of farmers, and children will get an opportunity to cook and taste something with local ingredients.

“We hope local school children will learn a lot about where their food comes from when they attend this barbecue-themed event,” Kathy Wilson, a former teacher and now an Honorary Pembrokeshire Show governor, said.

“One of the important elements of Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society’s work is educational and spreading the word around the county about how local food is produced.

“We are very grateful to all the farmers and supporters who are volunteering their time to make this event happen.”
