Among the ongoing and past projects of the vegan campaigning group Global Vegan Crowdfunder is the Vegan Land Movement (VLM), which was established to acquire land, especially land used for animal agriculture, and repurpose it.

The group believes that transforming the land is a “powerful response to many of our urgent crises”, citing climate change, biodiversity loss, disconnection from nature and animal exploitation as some of these.

The group is currently asking for donations for its fifth attempt to buy a specific, but unnamed, piece of animal agricultural land. At present, it has raised a little over £20,000 for the cause; its target is £40,000.

It has not named this land on its campaign page as it believes that leaves it “wide open to be seen by the competition, who are mainly other animal farmers”.

Its last land-buying project, Dairy Grazing Land Buyout 4, was successful. At 10ac, it is the biggest parcel of land removed by the movement so far.

Previously, it won 6.8ac of ex-grazing land in Somerset in December 2021 and in February 2022, bought a parcel of land that had planning permission for a chicken unit attached to it, the group said.

“Each time we won at auction; we were successful by using a ‘stealth’ approach,” the group said.

“On every occasion, we campaigned hard publicly and were outbid on a first plot, subsequently entering another auction (without any publicity on social media) and won the next parcel of land.

“Thank you for your incredible support so far and for any help you can give to the VLM Land Fund to secure future land buyouts. We must continue to save land from animal agriculture and to give it back to nature. “

Global Vegan Crowdfunder is also currently fundraising for mud-control slabs and the manufacture of a custom-made pig lift to give foot treatments to pigs at Beneath The Wood Sanctuary.
