Independent and standardised DLG PowerMix tests are a benchmark for tractor fuel efficiency.

Recent trials, which compared the MF 8S Xtra Dyna E-Power and Dyna-VT models with their main market segment competitors, highlighted the performance of the Massey Ferguson engines and powertrains.

The PowerMix tests assess and compare tractor performance in a series of controlled working environments designed to replicate farm operation.

This includes 14 transport and field applications at different speeds and working loads, and with power take-off (PTO) and hydraulic-driven implements.

According to Massey Ferguson, the 8S.265 Xtra Dyna E-Power “achieved exceptional results for fieldwork”, beating its six competitors in the 209kW +/-20kW (330 maximum horsepower) category.

It also took first place overall with fuel savings from 4-22g/kWh.

The MF 8S.265 Xtra Dyna-VT also proved its fuel efficiency, achieving second place in the CVT transmission category ahead of several key competitors.

Jerome Aubrion, marketing director at Massey Ferguson for Europe and Middle East said: “These DLG tests show that, in similar working environments, the MF 8S Xtra series tractors use less energy (g/kWh) than other makes and models in the same market segment, across all applications.

“These results highlight that these tractors could help farmers achieve fuel savings up to 3.74 l/hr, or 18,727L over 5,000 working hours, making them the benchmark in terms of power and fuel efficiency.”

According to the manufacturers, this translates into working more hectares while using the same amount of fuel, reducing owners’ costs of operation.

From the test group of eight tractors, all within the 330hp maximum class, the Massey Ferguson 8S.265 Xtra Dyna E-Power stood out as the overall winner for both field and transport applications.

MF 8S Xtra Dyna-VT

With a continuously variable transmission designed for optimum precision and flexibility, the MF 8S Xtra Dyna-VT also impressed.

It averaged 247g/kWh specific fuel consumption across the range of field tasks.

Like the Dyna-VT shares the same long wheelbase, but achieved an 361g/kWh during 40kph transport applications and 365g/kWh for 50kph applications.

The latest MF 8S Xtra series offers six models from 205hp to 305hp and is powered by AGCO Power 6‑cylinder, 7.4L engines, delivering strong power, torque and performance at low engine speeds, helping to reduce operating costs.

The choice of transmission allows the customers to select the most suitable drivetrain for their situation, Massey Ferguson said.
