Veterinary nursing students from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) have completed their course and attended a winter graduation.

Friday, December 2, marked the end of the year of 2022 graduations at the college as it welcomed back past students and their families to the Greenmount campus in Antrim to celebrate their achievements.

Dr Eric Long, head of education service at CAFRE, extended a special welcome to Fiona McFarland, the President of the Northern Ireland Veterinary Association, who congratulated the students on their graduation.

Dr Eric Long, Fiona McFarland, Bethan Pinhey (course manager at CAFRE), Matthew Rendle, (chair of the Veterinary Nurses Council) Manus McHenry and Alan Galbraith (head of college service at CAFRE)

Long commended the Level 2 Animal Nursing and Level 3 Veterinary Nursing graduates, saying that they have “reached a milestone” in their academic career.

He added that graduating from their courses was “just a steppingstone on the path of knowledge and learning”.

“It is vital that you continue to learn and keep up-to-date with innovative technologies and continue to develop new skills in your veterinary workplace,” he said.

Manus McHenry, the head of agriculture education at CAFRE, addressed the attendees at the graduation to say he recognised the magnitude of the achievements of the graduates.

On completion of written examinations, assignments and portfolios, students completed an additional Objectively Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE).

This qualification enables students to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and provides them with license to practice as recognised Veterinary Nursing professionals.
