The number of engine cylinders possessed by a tractor is increasingly being seen as the threshold by which the degree of its sophistication is decided.
Valtra has recently applied this principle to its best-selling 5th Generation A series models, the A105 and A115, which offer the horsepower noted in their names.
From now on, tractors produced by the company with four cylinders or more will no longer be fitted with a traditional gear lever.
Instead, all will now feature a fully electronically controlled transmission.
32 ratios available
In the case of the A Series with a four-step Powershift transmission, they will have a 16+16R or 32+32R with creeper gearboxes.
Other features of the new A105 and A115 HiTech 4 models include a wide range of precision farming tools already available on other Valtra models, based on satellite positioning and the company’s own Valtra Guide software.

These smart technologies integrate ISOBUS capabilities and Valtra’s full suite of software tools for matching implements.
The operator will enjoy safer and easier access to the cab via aluminium steps, while operating safety is enhanced by rear view mirrors that have been increased in size by 70%.
Clear glass from Valtra
Both the air conditioning and heating systems have been upgraded and various smaller refinements made to the cab.
Valtra claims that the windows remain clear even in fluctuating conditions of around 0°C, while underfloor heating is offered as an option.
A larger 200L fuel tank is now fitted, with a steel version being offered as an option.
Front linkage
New standard control valves with a dual pump hydraulic system giving 98l/min flow have been fitted.
A factory-fitted front linkage capable of lifting 2,500kg is available along with a front loader. There is a choice of mechanical or electronic control for the linkage.
The lower-powered A series models will retain a simpler and more affordable cab and specification.
