A man has died following an incident involving a tractor in Fiddington, near Tewkesbury during the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 9 at approximately 11:25p.m according to the Gloucestershire Constabulary.

The Gloucestershire Constabulary released a statement saying: “It is believed that a man who had been driving a tractor through fields collided with hedges and some stationary vehicles.”

The police confirmed that the passenger of the tractor was a man aged in his 50s, who sustained serious injuries in the collision.

Members of the public provided first aid at the scene, and were assisted by police officers when they arrived until paramedics arrived.

Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the man was pronounced dead.

Arrest

Police reported that a man aged in his 20s was believed to have been driving the tractor at the time of the incident.

The man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The Gloucestershire Constabulary is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to get in touch or fill out an online information form.

The police also confirmed the Severn Vale Vintage Club annual show had taken place at the location on same day. However, the event was cancelled for Sunday following the tragedy.

Farm safety

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) released figures last month revealing farming as the UK’s most dangerous job, accounting for 20% of workplace fatalities.

The HSE confirmed that 27 people had lost their lives on farms in England, Scotland and Wales in in the 2023/2024 season.

According to the HSE In 2024/25 alone, 23 farm workers lost their lives on farms across Great Britain. Nearly half of the workers killed were over the age of 65.

The situation is similar in Northern Ireland, where five agricultural workers were killed over the same period, according to the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI).
